Our Story
The concept of Primary Health Care and the institutions started at the Bamako Convention in 1977, where world leaders came up with the ideas of the health of mankind not as only a right but as an achievable objective. Bamako initiative gained acceptance by Nigeria Government resulting to the formalization of policies and objectives that actualized the establishment of Colleges/School of Health Technologies in Nigeria. The main purpose is to provide the needed work force for both preventive and curative health care services at the Primary and middle care levels. School of Health Technology Keffi was established in 1999 by the first Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Senator Abdullahi Adamu (Turakin Keffi) to meet the primary health care needs of the state.
Law supporting that formation was passed in 2002. The Law was reviewed by the previous administration in 2015 and 2019, respectively, to elevate the status of the School to College, and the Governor, His Excellency Engr. A. A. Sule, revised the Law to reflect the current upgrade.
The College offers 11 distinct professional health courses, with awards ranging from a diploma to a higher national diploma. The students receive training to provide support to secondary health care institutions as well as services in primary healthcare facilities. For the National Diploma, Professional Bodies and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) have both recognized all programs.
