The Environmental Health Department was created in 1999 and is one of the pioneer departments of the then School of Health Technology Keffi and currently the College of Health Science and Technology Keffi. The department is under the School of Public Health Sciences. It has the following units and offices under it: the Course Coordinator’s Office, Department Examination Office, and Departmental Practical Office. It had witnessed tremendous changes over the years under various HODs including Mr. Godwin Loko, Mallam Abdullahi Abubakar, Mr. Moses Ezhim, Mr. Amingo Manga and the immediate past HOD Mr. Ezekiel Efuna Kakpo who is now the current Dean School of Public Health Sciences. The department offers courses in environmental sanitation, waste management, water supply, food hygiene, vector control, occupational health and safety, and environmental health education.
The Department aims to produce competent and qualified environmental health officers who can promote and protect the health of the public and the environment. The Department of is proud to offer both National and Higher National Diploma qualifications which have been accredited by the National Board for Technical Education. Furthermore, the Department also has a partnership with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board. The Current Head of the Department is Mr. Bala Uriah. He was appointed HOD of the department on 11th November 2020, with the mandate to run and oversee the affairs of the department and of officers under him respectively. He holds a Masters’s Degree with interests in Environmental Health, Medical Microbiology, and Public Health. Bala Uriah has been in the College Service for more than one and a half decades gaining experiences in various units both within the College and associate organizations.
