HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA COURSES

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

The higher National Diploma (HND) program in Environmental Health is  a two year course that prepares students for careers in environmental health management, sanitation, and public health. The program is offered by the Nasarawa State College of Health Science & Technology, Keffi which is a reputable institution that has been providing quality education in health sciences since 1999. The program is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), which is the regulatory body for technical and vocational education in Nigeria. The program aims to equip students with the health well-being of individuals and communities from environmental hazard and risks.

HND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

The Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health Technology is designed to produce middle level Environmental  Health personnel i.e. Environmental Health Technologists who will be supervisors in organizing and ensuring healthy environment in homes, communities and work places; thereby bequeathing to the public a sustainable level of health to enable them live and perform optimally in their communities.

The minimum entry requirements into the HND Environmental Health Technology are;

  1. ND Environmental Health Technology Certificate (with CGPA not less than 2.50) from accredited programme/institution ND Public Health, ND Epidemiology, and Disease Control, ND Occupational Health and Safety.
  2. Must have undergone one year of supervised field experience (SUPFE), in an acceptable Environmental Health Practice Area.
  3. 5 O’level credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The HND Environmental Health Technology is structured to last for two (2) years (four semesters) of classroom work, laboratory, field trip, Seminars, and workshop practices in an accredited tertiary health institution.

Each semester shall be for 17-18 weeks, made up as follows:

  1. Fifteen (15) contacts weeks of teaching (i.e. Lectures and Practical sessions etc.) and
  2. 2-3 weeks for registration, tests, quizzes, and examinations.

The HND in Nutrition and Dietetics Course is a program offered by the Nasarawa State College of Health Science and Technology Keffi. It is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to promote healthy eating habits and prevent nutrition-related diseases. The course is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and covers topics such as food science, nutrition assessment, diet therapy, community nutrition, and food service management. Graduates of this course can work as nutritionists, dietitians, food service managers, or health educators in various settings such as hospitals, schools, clinics, or community organizations.

HND NUTRITION AND DIETETICS

The programme aims at equipping students with the knowledge and skills to promote healthy eating habits and prevent nutrition-related diseases. The course is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and covers topics such as food science, nutrition assessment, diet therapy, community nutrition, and food service management.

The minimum entry requirements into the HND Environmental Health Technology are;

  1. ND Nutrition and Dietetics Certificate (with CGPA not less than 2.50) from accredited programme/institution (while those with pass grade must have minimum of two years experience in a specific field to be considered for admission.
  2. Must posses one year cognate industrial training experience (internship) certificate.
  3. Possession of a minimum of five (5) O’level credits in science courses at not more than two sittings in Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics

The programme is structured to last for two (2) years (four semesters) of classroom work, field trip, Practicum, seminars and workshop practices in an accredited tertiary health institution.

Each semester shall be for 17-18 weeks, made up as follows:

  1. Fifteen (15) contacts weeks of teaching (i.e Lectures and Practical sessions etc) and
  2. 2-3 weeks for registration, tests, quizzes and examinations.

The course is accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and covers topics such as health informatics, health data analysis, health records management, health information ethics and legal issues, and health information research methods. The course duration is two years. By the end of this course, students will be able to apply what they learned to real-world scenarios and contribute to Health care development.

HND HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

To equip students with the skills and knowledge to manage health information systems in various settings. Students will learn about the principles and practices of health information management, the legal and ethical aspects of health data, the use of information technology and software applications, and the analysis and presentation of health statistics.e to the improvement of health care delivery and outcomes.

The minimum entry requirements into the HND Health Information Management are;

  1. Possession of ND Health Information Management Certificate with a minimum of Lower credit grade. (while those with pass grades must have at least two years experience in a specific field may be considered)
  2. Compulsory one (1) year cognate industrial training experience (internship) certificate.
  3. Possession of five 5 O’level credits including English and  Mathematics in WAEC or NECO. Not more than two sittings.
